This page offers farming practices for the effective use of water to minimise leaching and run-off.

Objectives:

Good Management Practices 20-21 focus on applying irrigation water efficiently to meet plant demands and minimise the risk of leaching and run-off.

Good management of irrigation systems ensures;

  • The irrigation system is efficient,
  • Irrigation is scheduled,
  • Operators are trained, and
  • Auditable records are kept.

In Tasman, all consented water takes require a water meter.  Readings must be reported to Council each week. If you're interested in learning more, visit our Water Metering page.
