Nominations have now closed. See the full list of candidates (pdf 79 KB).
Read the public notice of day of election and poll for the Tasman District Council.
The nominations are in, and campaigning is underway.
Now it’s time to meet the candidates so you can make an informed decision about who you want to represent you.
Over the next couple of weeks, we will produce videos of candidates answering a couple of simple questions, so you can see and hear their thoughts about the Tasman District.
These videos will be posted here soon alongside the written candidate statements.
Meanwhile there are numerous events planned around Tasman organised by community groups and organisations where you can find out more about the people on the ballot paper.
We don’t run or organise these events, but a comprehensive list will be updated regularly on this page.
Local Government elections (also referred to as Local Authority Elections) throughout New Zealand are held by postal vote every three years and run by the local authority (the Tasman District Council).
General Elections are run by the Electoral Commission (not the Tasman District Council).
Elections are conducted under the provisions of the Local Electoral Act 2001, the Local Electoral Regulations 2001, and the Local Government Act 2002. Read the public notification of the Local Authority Election on 11 October 2025.

Incumbent elected members seeking re-election have two roles. They continue to make the decisions as members of the Council or its community boards, while at the same time campaigning for re-election as a candidate.
These protocols provide guidance on how to balance the dual role as elected members and candidates seeking re-election.
