The General Principles of Good Management Practices (GMPs 1-3) are the foundation for all Farm Environment Plans. These plans are essentially a stock-take of land, soil, and water resources, an assessment of opportunities and risks, and a map of planned actions. This approach customises environmental planning for each farming situation in the primary sector.

The five key concepts of GMPs:

  • Understand the nutrient loss pathways on your property
  • Assess risks to water quality
  • Manage appropriately
  • Record actions
  • Review regularly
